Sammy Figueroa

Musician, percussionist and composer

Sammy Figueroa is, no doubt, one of the world’s great musicians. As one of the music’s leading percussionists he has played on countless records and is well-known for his versatility in a multitude of musical styles. He’s played with some of the world’s greatest pop stars, such as David Bowie, Chaka Khan and Mariah Carey, as well as some of the most distinguished jazz artists including Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, Brecker Brothers, and many, many more.

So, you can imagine we feel rather starstruck seeing him with the Palma DHS-1 in his home studio. And he gave his approval to our headphones pointing out the comfortable wear apart from the high quality of sound.

Sammy Figueroa is now celebrating his recent Latin GRAMMY® nomination in the category of “Best Jazz/Latin Jazz Album” for his masterpiece “Searching for a Memory/Busco Tu Recuerdo,” a deep and personal tribute that features collaborations with Cuban virtuoso pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba and talented vocalist Aymée Nuviola. The album, produced by GRAMMY® nominee Rachel Faro, is dedicated to the memory of Charlie Figueroa, Sammy’s father and an iconic bolero figure in the 1950s. Charlie tragically passed away at the age of 32, and Sammy, who never got to know his father, uses this album to connect with his legacy.

We strongly recommend you listen to this precious album with its very own approach to Latin Music, it’s one of those future classic records that you don’t want to miss in your collection. And we think it sounds especially good in the Palma DHS-1. Whether in open-back or closed-back mode is entirely up to you.
